Muller's Morning Star Block

Muller Barn

 This block is #19 on the Quilt Barn Trail.  It's the first one to be hung during our 2nd season of painting.  The block is called "Morning Star" and is a design often seen and used by the Lakota tribes.  The Mullers have a family connection with the Lakotas.   The barn itself is called "D'Topia" and is used, among many other things, as a place where Doug works on digital projects.  See this barn at 22905 SW Mountain Home Rd, Sherwood.

Spencer Gates feeling satisfied after putting up the block on the Twin Fir Century Farm. 



The extended Gates family gathered to help put this block up.  The 5 interlocking squares represent 5 generations who have lived and worked on this farm, at 27007 NW West Union Road, Hillsboro.

Celebrating the Plum Hill Vineyard's Inauguration of their Double Wedding Ring Block on Dec. 6, 2015.   There was a ribbon to be cut, a wedding cake to enjoy, wine tasting, a book signing and a display of double wedding ring quilts loaned by members of the Westside Quilters Guild. Only one day after the first year anniversary of the first block to go up!!  The tiara ladies were only a few of the folks who came out to enjoy the occasion.

Installation in process for this elegant wheat block by
John Doctor and his crew.  This block is viewable at
34180 SW Unger Road, Cornelius, OR, and is placed
on a barn over 100 years old.  Owned by Unger
Enterprises, this wheat block celebrates this
Century Farm and its ongoing agricultural heritage.

The crew is up on ladders installing this traditionally colored block on Halloween, 2015.



The new building of Duyck Machine is the location for this windmill block. 
It is a reminder of the Dutch heritage of the Duyck's and many other families in the area.

Driving west out of the Verboort round-about, you'll be
able to see this block off to your right. 

This colorful cross block is located at the site of several buildings
belonging to the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, located at
4265 SW Golf Course Road, Cornelius.  The old church itself
was founded in 1882 by Lutheran settlers in a small community
known then as Blooming.  The colors in this cross have significance
to the members are symbolic of aspects of their faith.

We're up to an even dozen blocks!

Here are the latest blocks to be installed on the trail: 

The Jones/Shultz barn sports a corn block.  This farm has traditionally grown corn and green beans.  The block was designed by our own Jean Lasswell.  Find this block at 2728 SW Golf Course Rd, Cornelius.

The L Bar T Bison Ranch displays this lovely 8-pointed star block.  This block replicates one of the blocks made by women crossing the Oregon Trail, and is the second such block to be hung.  The barn, originally a dairy barn, is very large and quite high.  See this one heading out from Forest Grove, going south on Hwy 47. 

New Farm; New Barn; New Block

Dresden Plate is the name of this traditional block recently installed on the new (and not quite finished!) barn of the Foehlinger's.  To match the blades of the plate, they plan to install a working windmill there as well.  Won't that be fun to see!  Find this one at 5735 SW Springhill Rd., Gaston.

 

Number 10 is up! Waaaay up!

Visited the Plum Hill Vineyards this morning to capture a photo of the very newly installed Double Wedding Ring block on the old barn.  It needed a tall lift bucket to get it up so high!  It is very pretty up there and can be seen from Hwy 47.  This block is located at 6505 SW Old Hwy 47, Gaston.
