July 3, and Two New Blocks Go Up!

The Demmin Farm, 33488 SW Tongue Lane is up and ready to view.  Navy Captain Lester Demmin was in command of a nuclear submarine during the Cold War; we're happy to present "Captain's Star" as Number 34 on the trail.  He came home to farm for a while after he retired.  The farm grows commercial blueberries and other crops.

Number 35 is this small but classic house block at the Taghon Century Farm, located at 1645 NW Cornelius-Shefflin Road, Cornelius.  The property includes several old buildings from the original farm as well as a Sears kit house, the reason for the house block selection. 

Jungle Flower is Up!

The Jungle Flower Block graces the Harding shed at 47301 SW Carpenter Creek Road, Forest Grove.  The Harding's love to travel to tropical sites and this block evokes memories of those trips for them.

Peach Tree Block

Grossen Peaches, LLC selected this vibrant Peach Tree Block for their peach orchard.  It is #32 on the trail and is located at 23678 NW Grossen Drive, Hillsboro.  It's visible from the parking lot at the Helvetia Tavern, but you can drive up to it.  During the peach season, come out and pick your own peaches and perhaps enjoy a picnic on the grass in the designated area.

Blooming Junction Nursery's Black-Eyed Susan Block

 

   Number 31 on the Trail is a Black-Eyed Susan block at the Blooming Junction Nursery, located at 35105 NW Zion Church Road, Cornelius.  Drive in for a closer look, and enjoy the espresso, fresh vegetables and many colorful plants for sale.

Zurbrugg block going up!

The Zurbrugg barn at 13365 NW Logie Trail, Hillsboro,
is sporting a Carpenter's Circle block.  Mr. Zurbrugg is
a contractor, so very appropriate for this family.

The Nussbaumer barn, located at 40500 NW Osterman Road, Forest Grove, is vibrant in shades of the sunset!  And that is what we named this block. 

Kerry VanderZanden chose a Butterfly block in memory of his mother, who enjoyed both butterflies and sunflowers.  Five generations of his family have lived on the farm land.  It is located at 2603 NW Hwy 47, Forest Grove.

The Brown's Ferry Park block is #27

#27 on the Quilt Barn Trail is now installed on its great old barn, circa 1940's, at 5855 SW Nyberg Lane, Tualatin.  This is the Brown's Ferry Park, and is a short walk from the parking lot.   "Crossed Canoes" is the name of this traditional quilt block, chosen because a quiet stretch of the Tualatin River is just behind the trees.  In the summer, you can canoe or kayak the river here, bringing your own or renting one.  The Tualatin River Greenway Trail for walking or biking runs along the river for a few miles and was just opened in 2016.  It is seen just to the right of the barn and is about at the easternmost end of the trail.   Photo courtesy of City of Tualatin.

Cawrse Century Farm and the Laurel Community Hall



 

This block, at the Cawrse Century Farm, 34850 NW Zion Church Rd, Cornelius, OR, is a standout on this old white barn.  It is best viewed going west on Zion Church Rd, just before coming to the Susbauer intersection.  The block is a Bethlehem Star, chosen because Steve Cawrse just liked it.  It is # 26 on the Trail.



 

The Laurel Community Home Club picked this variation of a Friendship Star Block for their hall because they have engaged in fellowship and community projects for many, many years.  They are in the process of preparing for a 100 year anniversary of the building.
