Moon Over Mountains is the name of this block, gracing the new shop at the Hummel Farm, at 30487 SW Egger Rd, Hillsboro. Chosen because of the spectacular view from the farm site where they can see Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainer. This depicts the four seasons as well. The House on the property was moved to the site and expanded, but is 200 years old. This block is best viewed from Egger Road, just after turning left off of Campbell Road. This is the Brown's Ferry Park, and is a short walk from the parking lot. "Crossed Canoes" is the name of this traditional quilt block, chosen because a quiet stretch of the Tualatin River is just behind the trees. In the summer, you can canoe or kayak the river here, bringing your own or renting one. The Tualatin River Greenway Trail for walking or biking runs along the river for a few miles and was just opened in 2016. It is seen just to the right of the barn and is about at the easternmost end of the trail. Photo courtesy of City of Tualatin.

Lyle Spiesschaert's great-grandfather came from Illinois as a young boy via the Oregon Trail, arriving at Verboort in 1884. The farm itself was established at least 115 years ago. Lyle still has the original covered wagon that made the trip in the 100 year old barn. The new metal siding makes it seem much younger! Also on that wagon was Father Herman Osterman, who founded the St. Mary's Home for Boys in Beaverton. Drive slowly along Thatcher Rd. and look for the Covered Wagon block, an original design. 3150 NW Thatcher Rd, Forest Grove.
He had been wanting one, and his children found us and helped it become a reality. The farm currently raises clover and grass seed, but originally had produced grain, hay and dairy cattle.
